Grassroots Innovations Assembly for Agroecology

Innovations are happening everyday on farms, in the fields, on fisherboats, in the communities.

The Grassroots Innovations Assembly for Agroecology (GIA) is valuing and promoting local knowledge and daily inventivness of food producers worldwide. It is an Assembly of grassroots organizations and local networks, rooted in agroecology (Nyéléni, 2015), active to strengthen, defend and share food producers’ knowledge, tools, equipment, machines and innovations in general.

The Assembly is a safe space for sharing tools and techniques as well as social processes enabling the identification of farmers’ needs, the development of solutions at grassroot level, the documentation and the disseminatation of adequate solutions, often collectively developed.

Grassroots innovations networks worldwide are already demonstrating a farmer-led future for agricultural technology. In GIA, these organizations can connect and build a grassroots perspective on innovations, that will be shared on this website.

We value grassroots actors’ capacity to develop tools, machines, digital technologies and all kinds of innovations that address their needs and increase their autonomy in producing, processing and marketing food in their living territories. Grassroots innovations are happening in very different ways across our diverse territories worldwide.

We value and defend food producers’ inventiveness as a key component of agroecology.
